WEEK 2 | BLESSING 1: CHOSEN

Ephesians 1:4

  • Even as he CHOSE us in him before the foundation of the world, that we should be HOLY and BLAMELESS before him.

What does it mean to be chosen?

  • We see throughout scripture that God chooses certain people and nations to represent Him. Abraham was chosen and set apart to bring forth the nation of Israel. Moses was chosen and set apart to bring freedom to the nation of Israel. Jesus was chosen to live, die and rise from the dead; so that all of humanity might have salvation. Paul was chosen and set apart to help believers and the early church see how to live out apprenticeship to Jesus. We are also chosen. It might be crazy to think, but the God who created the universe has chosen you and set you apart. The truth is there is no one like you in this world. God has chosen you to represent Him in this world. Think about it: God chose Israel to be his representatives (or to use Paul’s terminology: “saints”) to the other nations. When God chooses someone, something, or a nation, the purpose is to show who He is. When we do this we bless those around us. God has chosen you. Live in the blessing that He picked you. Then go and share that blessing with others.

Questions | Further Study :

  • Meditate on these words of Jesus from John 15:16, “You did not choose me, but I chose you and appointed you that you should go and bear fruit and that your fruit should abide, so that whatever you ask the Father in my name, he may give it to you.”

    • What is Jesus telling us we are chosen for?

    • How does it make you feel to know that you are chosen by God?

    • If you truly believed you were chosen by God, how would it change how you live?
