WEEK 1 | WHY EXODUS 34:6-7?
Exodus 34:6-7
The Lord passed before him and proclaimed, “The LORD, the LORD, a God merciful and gracious, slow to anger, and abounding in steadfast love and faithfulness, keeping steadfast love for thousands, forgiving iniquity and transgression and sin, but who will by no means clear the guilty, visiting the iniquity of the fathers on the children and the children's children, to the third and the fourth generation.”
Why Exodus 34:6-7?
These two verses are possibly the most quoted verses in all of scripture. God here reveals himself in a way we did not expect. He shows us His name and characteristics. As Chuck Smith, the founder of the Calvary Chapel movement, says… in these verses we see “there isn't one God of the Old Testament and a different God of the New Testament. He is revealed in both Testaments as gracious, loving, kind, merciful, and forgiving. He is also revealed in both Testaments as a God of judgment and wrath, that it, to those without repentance.” The truth is we become like what we worship. If we are going to worship God, we should seek to know the very nature and character of God.
