Session 06: Abide

Passage: John 15:1–17

 

Reflect:

  1. What does the vine/branches/vinedresser analog convey about our relationship with Jesus and the Father? Reflect on this for a while.

  2. Jesus uses the word “abide” 11 times here. What does it mean? What are the implications? How is it done?

  3. What does Jesus say about joy and love here? How does that tie in to the rest of the passage?

 

Do:

Take 10 minutes of silence to contemplate the concept of “abiding.” Contrast it in your mind with terms like “striving” or “serving” or others that come to mind. Then spend five minutes planning an act of self-giving love for someone around you. Be sure to perform that act of love this week and share your experience with each other at your next conversation.
